Year 8 pupil Akshaya Iynharran has received a reply from the Queen after sending her a copy of her moving story about her grandmother who was killed in the Sri Lankan war.

Akshaya’s moving piece entitled Grandmother: A fighter, a warrior, and an Inspiration! was a submission for a writing challenge last month, when the Herstory Club teamed up with our History Department to celebrate Women’s History Month.

The brief was to write 500 words on a girl or woman from history who they found interesting and whose story they felt deserved to be told. We received some amazing submissions!

“The Queen wishes to thank you for your letter and for the story you have written about your much loved grandmother, Mrs Mallikadavi Sellathambi who paid the ultimate sacrifice to save her own children and others during the Sri Lankan civil war.”
