Earlier this month, Year 5 and 6 runners took part in the annual Merton Court Cross Country Relay, with the Year 5 team winning the gold medal and Year 6 securing bronze.
12 schools took part in the event, with four runners in each team completing one lap of the 1,200m course across the school fields and woodland of Merton Court School.
The Year 5 team started first and gradually worked their way to the front of the pack, thanks to strong runs from Emma and Yana. Beatrice took over the third leg with a good lead already in place and also managed to stretch the gap even further before handing over to the fourth and final runner, Lucy. Lucy had a tremendous lap and secured the gold medal for Bromley High School with a 25 seconds gap ahead of second place.
The Year 6 team had a strong field of runners; Kitty and Sophie started the race keeping Team Bromley in the top five positions, with Alice bringing the team up to third place for the final change over. Hanna worked hard throughout her lap to maintain the position but had strong competition from fourth place. It was a close finish in the end, with Hanna having to dig deep for the line. She showed tremendous grit to retain third position and took the bronze medal for the Year 6 team.
Well done to all eight runners for their fantastic effort and well deserved results!
