Design Technology pupils attended a Minerva Lecture yesterday with expert Matt Hurley to learn more about his work and the product design process.
Matt Hurley, who is an experienced industrial designer and design educator with over 32 years in the creative and engineering field, discussed the importance of working with a client, establishing an understanding of the current market, and how a designer helps individuals to bring an idea to fruition.
The presentation showcased some inspiring products including BootBuddy which was featured on Dragon’s Den and a Silver Back Harness which is a strength and conditioning training aid specifically developed to build core strength in rugby players. He demonstrated how Computer Aided Design is used to communicate technical details and outlined the manufacturing processes used to fabricate prototypes.
The design students were able to gain an insight into possible careers within this field and learn more about degree options following their A levels.
