Congratulations to Year 10 pupil Alyssa for finishing 2021 on a high. She ranked 3rd in England and 5th in the UK in the 60-meter hurdles race in her age group.
In the past year, Alyssa has found a passion for a multitude of events like the pentathlon, which includes hurdles, shotput, high jump, long jump and 800m, and the 300m.
“I ran my first hurdle race at the age of 11 in 2019 and after running a surprisingly good 70-meter hurdle race for the first time with no training, my team manager asked me to join Paul Austridge’s group (my hurdles coach). In 2021, my personal best for the 60-meter hurdles was 9.44 seconds. To achieve this, I train five days a week on the track and one day in the gym. My goal for 2022 is to medal for hurdles at the English Schools Competition during the summer, and to end the year in the top 3 in the UK. “Year 10 pupil, Alyssa
This weekend, Alyssa will be competing at the indoor South Of England Athletic Association in hurdles, 300m and shotput. She will also compete at the Indoor Nationals in Sheffield in a month. Good luck Alyssa!
