On Monday the 10th of November, Year 11 pupils Ellen and Darcey and Year 12 pupil Sophie competed in the ESU MACE Debating Competition as a team and successfully progressed to the next round.
The team was given the topic in advance and so the debate required preparation meetings to think about how they would present their arguments and tackle the opposition’s.
Six schools debated that night and Bromley High was up against Langley Park School for Girls with the motion: ‘This house would make fines for criminal and civil offences proportional to wealth’. The other schools debated on artists’ moral duty to be political and whether men should be forced to take paternity leave.
It was a really enjoyable evening with spirited debates and all schools performed impressively.
