Last week, our Music department were very privileged to welcome Sian Edwards, Head of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, for a special Masterclass for girls in the school’s Conducting Club.
Led by Maths and Physics teacher and Head of Choral Music, Alex Davan Wetton, the Bromley High School lunchtime Conducting Club, teaches girls the art of directing an ensemble.
Sian studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and later with the conductors Sir Charles Groves, Ilya Musin and Neeme Järvi. In September 2013 she took up the role of Head of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. She is a true pioneer in the traditionally male world of orchestral and opera conducting.
She ran a fascinating Masterclass, working with our pupils and a Bromley High string ensemble to explore the sound worlds and musical nuances of Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite.
“The Masterclass with Sian Edwards was a very enriching experience for myself as a musician and to be in the presence of such expertise was an honour.” Rosie, Upper Sixth pupil
