Last week our Year 9 pupils had the exciting opportunity to step back in time on a Latin and Classics trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace and Butser Ancient Farm.

The site features archaeological reconstructions of ancient buildings from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon period, and their buildings appear frequently in documentaries and feature films. The farm also grows crops from prehistory and keep rare breeds of animals, such as goats and sheep.

“We learnt all about the round houses, the buildings that the ancient Britons lived in before the Romans. They were made of a list of frightful ingredients such as urine and cow pat, plus a cleverly crafted thatch roof. We were also guided around the different buildings such as the Roman villa.  Lastly we made jewellery, which I thought was one of the most enjoyable parts of the tour.  Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this school trip and thanks to the staff and Miss Nicholls who organised and supervised the trip.” Millicent Wright, Year 9 pupil
