The Year 7 Geography pupils had a busy and enriching day of fieldwork on the Greenwich Peninsula.
Their activities included a scenic cable car ride, conducting public interviews, completing a sustainability survey, and participating in an “eye spy” nature walk. A highlight of the day was a special talk from Mr Day, a senior officer at the Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park, who shared his expertise with the group.
Below is a poem inspired by the visit, written by Zinnia, Year 7 pupil:
By the river, it’s still and wide,
Where gentle waters flow and glide,
The skyline shines with glass and steel,
But here, there’s peace you breathe and feel.
Footsteps slow on wooden decks,
Boats move by in silver flecks.
Trees sway slowly in the salty air,
With birds waiting still and fair.
The wind is kind, the world is slow,
The Thames reflects the sky’s soft glow.
And as you walk, the noise is gone –
Just you, the light, the breeze, the dawn.
“I enjoyed hearing other people’s points of view and opinions when interviewing them – and the cable cars!”Lily, Year 7 pupil
“We liked analysing a sustainable city with many helpful and interesting structures. It was also an exciting change to have the chance to learn outside the classroom through hands-on experiences.”Isabella & Divija, Year 7 pupils
