Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoyed their Drama Festivals this week which were colourful and entertaining affairs, involving the participation of pupil performers, prop makers, technicians and audience.
Year 7 were set the challenge of adapting children’s novels. The audience were presented with pieces as diverse as Death on The Nile, Helga’s Diary and Fabio The Worlds Greatest Flamingo Detective. The groups put much thought and consideration into their pieces; The judges awarded prizes to ‘Holes’ (Year 7G) for their ingenuity in use of staging and props, Year 7H’s Wizard of Oz for their wonderful costumes, and to Francesca (Year 7H) for her energetic multi-rolling performance in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.
Year 8’s pieces were full of energy as they were given the task of presenting a silent movie style version of an Oscar-Nominated film. Darcey (Year 8E) was brilliantly athletic and witty as Peter Pan whilst Year 8F’s combination of live recorders and props meant that the iconic moment of Titanic was hilariously recreated. Year 8E’s version of West Side Story was a great example of how to organise a larger group; the movement and choreography were excellent.
“The overall standard was very high and it was encouraging to see so many great ideas and so much enjoyment on stage.” Mr Graham, Head of Drama
