Last week, to complement their studies, Year 5 pupils visited The Keeping Gallery, home of Charles and Renata Keeping.

The gallery holds the extensive collection of Renate and Charles Keeping’s work.  For students of art and illustration, it is a wonderful place to see the range of techniques used by these two artists.

In 2014 Renate Keeping passed away. Renate’s lifetime of creating amazing and unique works of art was recognised in 2018 by a blue plaque, also acknowledging her long standing work with schools and adult groups in the local area. The plaque was unveiled by Shortlands Residents Association and sits alongside Charles’ plaque – they are always together. With the support of friends and family who knew Charles and Renate’s work so well, The Keeping Gallery continues to welcome schools and visitors from all over the world.

Year 5 enjoyed their visit, taking part in a drawing workshop and looking at many of Charles and Renata’s original pieces of work. The pupils even had the opportunity to meet Mr and Mrs Keeping’s daughter.
