Following their trip to Greenwich, Year 5 pupils had the opportunity to hear from Mr Taylor to complement their current Science topic.
Year 5 pupils are currently learning about the earth, moon and sun, and their place in our solar system. Mr Taylor’s talk gave the girls a whole new perspective on how the movement of the sun, moon, stars and planets helps us navigate around the globe. From the ancient astronomers gazing up at the stars to sailors using a sextant, and modern-day drivers using Sat Nav systems, they learnt about how humans have always used celestial bodies to map our journey through space and time.
Mr Taylor made the concepts more tangible by challenging pupils to use some navigation charts to plot a voyage from London to New York.
