Last week, Year 12 students embarked on an enriching educational trip to some of the UK’s most influential institutions.
The first stop was the Supreme Court, where students were welcomed with a detailed historical overview of the building and an introduction to the current justices by an expert guide. Inside Courtrooms One and Two, they had the unique opportunity to sit in the judges’ chairs and participate in a mock debate based on a real-life murder trial from the 2000s. Collaborating with students from another school, they developed compelling arguments for both sides of the case – an engaging and thought-provoking exercise that brought legal theory to life. The visit also included the chance to observe a live case in session, offering firsthand insight into the workings of the UK’s highest court.
In the afternoon, the group visited the Institute of Economic Affairs, where they learned about the role and influence of think tanks in shaping public policy. The session included a discussion on how the institute addresses pressing issues such as the housing crisis.
The final destination was the House of Lords, where students were warmly welcomed for afternoon tea hosted by Team Global. The highlight of the visit was an inspiring keynote address by Baroness Floella Benjamin, who shared her powerful personal journey and spoke passionately about the role of young people in creating a more equitable and hopeful future.
“My favourite part of the trip was the speech giving by Baroness Benjamin as it was really inspiring.”Alyssa, Year 12 pupil
