Three Year 11 pupils, Clotilde, Gabby and Jayda have won the London final of the English Speaking Union’s Public Speaking Competition, and have a place in the national final in Cambridge.

Travelling after school to the ESU’s headquarters in Dartmouth House, Mayfair, the three students gave an outstanding performance which means that they will now go on to compete in the national final at Churchill College Cambridge in May. Clotilde held the role of chairperson, which she fulfilled with charm and confidence. Jayda took the role of Questioner, asking probing and insightful questions of the speaker from Sutton Grammar School. Meanwhile, Gabriella as speaker gave a speech on the subject of sexism which the judges met with incredibly positive feedback (feedback that ended with the phrase ‘just wow!’).

Overall, winning the opportunity to represent the entirety of London while overcoming some extremely strong competition from other top London schools, is an enormous achievement.
