During the Autumn half term, Year 11 and Year 12 Geography students embarked on an exciting trip to one of the coldest places in the world; Iceland.

The pupils went to various waterfalls, learnt about Iceland’s volcanoes in the Lava Museum, swam in the Blue Lagoon, ate ice cream at a small dairy farm, walked inside a lava tunnel and even hiked up a glacier.  They also visited three waterfalls during their trip; Gullfoss, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Year 11 pupil Hiral said, “First, we went to Gulfoss waterfall, which was incredible – it was so big we could see the whole river leading to it and the steam rising from the crashing down of the water.

“On another day we visited Skógafoss waterfall, for which we had to climb up over 450 stairs to get to the top. It was worth it in the end because it was the most beautiful sight to see. We then walked back down and stood under the giant waterfall, where we got absolutely drenched! Later that day we also went to Seljalandsfoss waterfall, my favourite. When we got there, we walked up a few sets of stairs and then got to venture behind the waterfall. It was charming and very picturesque. The waterfall sounded very powerful but the water was falling so gracefully – it felt magical.”

Adding to the magic of the whole trip, the group were fortunate enough to see the breathtaking Northern Lights.

There were a lot of exciting things I enjoyed during the trip, my favourite was the waterfalls.”Hiral, Year 11 pupil
