A couple of weeks after the success at The CopperBox Indoor Championships, Sixth Formers Amelie, Sasha and Alice participated in the Super 6s Indoor National Finals in Wolverhampton with their Knole Park U18 team.
In an exceptionally tough group including Surbiton, Bowden and Repton, the girls knew that every match would be very difficult, but they were ready for the challenge. First up was defending champions Repton HC. The girls produced an outstanding display of indoor hockey for an amazing 4-1 win.
In match two they faced Bowden HC. They were again excellent as they passed the ball exceptionally well to breakdown the stern Bowden defence. Amelie was on top form again netting another hat-trick which helped for a 5-0 win. It meant the girls had qualified for the semi-finals. which removed all the pressure from the final group match against Surbiton HC. Surbiton knew that a draw would be good enough for them to progress to the semi-finals so sat very deep and proved very hard to break down. But with Alice’s solid defence and Sasha’s midfield skills winning short corners, Amelie was able to twice slam the ball into the backboard for a 2-0 win.
Onto the semi-finals against Marlow. Despite Marlow taking an early lead the Knole Park girls remained calm and confident, and scored a run of four unanswered goals and were through to the final!
Waiting in the final was old nemesis Surbiton HC. The girls knew that this would be a different prospect to the earlier group match. The KP girls were phenomenal; propelling all the Surbiton attacks and creating chances going forward. Amelie took advantage of Sasha’s leads to take the girls to a 2-0 win. Amelie won the top scorer award too!
Amelie, Sasha and Alice have had an amazing indoor season playing such high level hockey and have been grateful for the support and encouragement Mr Evans and the rest of the PE department staff have given them. They are now back to outdoor training in preparation for the Schools U18 National Finals next month in Nottingham.
