This week, the whole school embraced the first of this academic year’s Wellbeing Weeks, generating much excitement among pupils and staff.
Wellbeing is a multifaceted concept that encompasses various aspects of health and happiness, with this week’s focus on Physical Wellbeing and the invaluable benefits of free play.
Often, there is a lot of emphasis on structured activities – such as sports, clubs, and academic enrichment – believing they are crucial for pupils’ success. However, it is essential to recognise the profound advantages of free play, particularly for adolescent girls. Free play, characterised by unstructured, self-directed activities, can significantly enhance overall wellbeing.
The Wellbeing Week program featured a variety of activities for students to engage in, including Play Together, Move and Dance, and Mindful Play. In the Junior School, pupils celebrated this week by focusing on physical health and the importance of ‘moving more’. They participated in activities designed to boost their energy and encourage fun, from lively dance sessions and aerobics in the playground to early morning dog walks and a walking bus to school.
The aim was to inspire students to explore different ways of staying active and to understand how movement benefits both body and mind.
