Year 9 pupils had the exciting opportunity to step back in time on a Latin and Classics trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace and Butser Ancient Farm.
The site features archaeological reconstructions of ancient buildings from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman Britain and the Anglo-Saxon period, and their buildings appear frequently in documentaries and feature films. The farm also grows crops from prehistory and keep rare breeds of animals, such as goats and sheep.
The pupils took part in many activities such as jewellery making and an information hunt around Fishbourne Roman Palace. In addition to this they toured around the roundhouses and village recreations, experiencing elements of daily lives and comparing the contrast between before and after the Roman invasion of Britain. This helped them visualise how the Romans improved and affected our society and technology and how Roman invention and innovation still affect us today.
“This trip was a great chance for us to experience learning in a different and immersive way. It was a fun to expand our knowledge and better understand the lives of the Romans and Britons who lived around this time.”Iris, Year 9 pupil
