Over the past few weeks, Bromley High School’s Charity Prefects organised a special collection to support Bromley and Croydon Women’s Aid in recognition of International Women’s Day. The initiative brought together students from across the school community, highlighting both generosity and creativity.

Working alongside the 140 scholars, the Charity Prefects began by decorating collection boxes for each form room. These colourful boxes helped raise awareness of the campaign and encouraged students to contribute. Throughout the following week, members of the school community donated a range of ‘luxury’ items, including chocolates, hand creams, face masks and candles. These thoughtful gifts were chosen to provide comfort and small moments of joy for women currently staying in refuge accommodation.

Rachael Phillips, the charity’s Fundraising Officer, visited the school to collect the donations. She later wrote to thank the community for its kindness and generosity. The items have since been carefully packed into gift bags, which will be distributed to each woman currently supported by the charity’s refuges.

“We have been busy packing these and will be delivering a bag to each of our service users currently in refuge with us – that’s 65 women who will all receive some lovely things.”Rachael Phillips, Bromley and Croydon Women’s Aid Fundraising Officer

In a letter of appreciation, Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid also thanked the school community, explaining that gestures like these support women as they navigate their recovery journeys.

The school community’s support reflects a shared commitment to standing against violence against women and girls, and to supporting those who need it most. The Charity Prefects would like to thank everyone who contributed and helped make the initiative such a success.
