Over the last couple of weeks, Senior pupils have participated in two House Debating competitions, battling against fellow pupils from each of our four school Houses.

In the first round, two motions were discussed: ‘Lowering the voting age so children of secondary school age could vote’ and ‘Changing the national anthem’. All four teams presented excellent speeches to arguing for or against the motion. Elmfield and Fernbank came out as the winners of both rounds.

The final round took place the week after and, again, there was a competitive showdown between Elmfield and Fernbank for the competition title and between Oakdene and Speldhurst for runners up. After a tough competition, Fernbank won the House Debating competition overall.

“The House Debating competition tournament was great fun and the competition between all the year groups was brilliant. Every girl who took part put in their all and it was amazing to see and be a part of it.”Alyssa, Year 11 pupil
