Six schools in total took part in the competition, with Bromley High up against St Olaves with the motion: ‘This house would ban the sale and consumption of meat’. At a first glance this motion seemed difficult to propose, as meat is an integral part of society, but the team developed ideas as to why a world with no meat consumption would be beneficial. This was something the team thoroughly enjoyed as they got to understand a different view to their own and develop arguments to support the proposition.
Their preparation paid off, and the team got through to the next stage of the competition. Congratulations to Aria, Darcey and Amelie!
‘We worked together as a team to brainstorm ideas then write speeches that complemented each other and flowed well, while taking into consideration the opposition’s points that we could pre-rebut.’Aria, Year 11 Debater
