Junior School pupils have today been celebrating Richmal Crompton & Outlaws Day and Outdoor Classroom Day with a carousel of activities focusing on learning outdoors.
The month of May 2022 marks the 100th year since Richmal Crompton, a world-renowned author who worked at Bromley High School as a classics teacher between 1918 and 1923, had her first ‘Just William’ book published. In these well-loved stories, schoolboy William’s sense of adventure and his love of the outdoors provides the ideal theme for our day of celebrating Outdoor Classroom Day.
Richmal Crompton was a much loved, dedicated teacher; unfortunately, her teaching career was cut short due to contracting polio, losing the ability to use her right leg. However, this allowed Richmal Crompton the opportunity to write in earnest. She eventually wrote over 39 books in the Just William alongside 50 other novels and children’s books.
