A Powerful Weekend of Remembrance, Reflection & Learning
The Battlefields trip to France and Belgium was an entirely new and thrilling experience. We had so much fun learning about the conditions in which WW1 took place and how different military powers fought in different locations during the war.  The trenches at Sanctuary Wood were amazing to navigate through and gave us an insight into the horrendous conditions which the soldiers had to endure. Visiting Tyne Cot, Langemark and Thiepval cemeteries really brought home the vast amount of soldiers who had lost their lives fighting between 1914 and 1918.
My personal highlight of the entire trip was to participate in the wreath-laying at The Last Post Ceremony under the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium. I did also love the visit to the Leonidas chocolate shop where we were able to buy exquisite, authentic Belgian chocolate to keep us going on the coach journey.
