Earlier this week, a group of Year 12 Philosophy & Theology A Level students led a captivating masterclass for Year 5 pupils in our Junior School, with the aim of introducing younger students to philosophical thinking in an enjoyable and thought-provoking way.

The session showcased the leadership and curiosity of the older students while sparking genuine interest and engagement among the Year 5 pupils.

One highlight was the ‘Hot Air Balloon Problem’, where pupils debated which qualities – such as job, family, or age – might make a person’s life more valuable. This encouraged them to justify their views and listen carefully to others. The session concluded with a fascinating discussion on what makes a person remain the same over time, prompting creative ideas and deep questions from the younger students.

The morning was a tremendous success, leaving both groups inspired and eager to explore big questions further.
