Lisa Williamson, author of numerous young adult novels visited Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils for Book Week.

Lisa talked about her roundabout approach to becoming an author, starting with her acting career, appearing in pantomimes and adverts, including the John Lewis Christmas advert featuring Monty the penguin, in which she played the mum.

Williamson also worked with teenagers experiencing issues with gender identity, which gave her the idea for her first novel, The Art of Being Normal. Her novels all deal with friendship and family relationships, and she explained she writes the books that her 15-year-old self would like to read.

‘Lisa Williamson was fascinating, really good at storytelling and encouraging people to follow their dreams.’Daniella, Year 7 pupil
