Our GCSE and Sixth Form pupils had the exciting opportunity to hear from alumna and Healthcare & Life Sciences Consultant Kayisha Payne, who shared her experience on her career path change from chemical engineering to consulting.
Bromley High School Alumna, Kayisha Payne studied Chemical Engineering at Aston University and continued her education at Imperial College London, where she received a Masters’ in Advanced Chemical Engineering.
In 2018, Kayisha was recognised by the Financial Times as one of The Top 100 Most Influential BAME leaders in Diversity and Technology. In 2019 she was awarded the STEM Rising Star Award at The Black British Business Awards. In 2020 she was awarded one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering.
Kayisha is currently a Healthcare & Life Sciences Consultant at Alvarez & Marsal and was previously a Biopharmaceutical Process Development Scientist at AstraZeneca.
As Kayisha brought the pupils along the timeline of her career, they were incredibly fascinated by the number of varied jobs she has had in the life sciences field. They also heard about the spontaneous creation of her incredibly successful and powerful BBSTEM organisation, a non-profit organisation campaigning for balance and representation of Black individuals in science, technology, engineering and maths.
“Kayisha’s lecture was one of the most inspiring lectures I have ever attended. As a student fascinated by STEM, I hope that one day I can be as inspiring to others as Kayisha and make a difference for the better of women in STEM .”Amber, Year 10 pupil
