Earlier this month, Minerva Lecture guest speaker Sarah Overton, spoke to pupils about Brexit and her work as a researcher in the think tank, The UK in a Changing Europe, which provides authoritative, non-partisan and impartial insights and analysis about the UK-EU relationship.

Sarah completed a bilingual Master’s in EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges where she was a European Neighbourhood Policy Scholar.  Previously, Sarah worked in Parliament as an adviser on legislation and policy

Year 12 pupil Sophie who attended the lecture said, “My classmates and I were excited to hear Sarah talk as we frequently reference and revise from the sources produced by ‘UK in a Changing Europe’ in our Politics lessons. The talk was centred around the Brexit referendum itself as well as exploring the effect that it had on the public’s attitude towards the EU and the atmosphere around Parliament square.”

“My favourite part of the talk was the discussion of the legitimacy of the campaign itself and who’s responsibility it is to uphold the promises made during the referendum by a party who wasn’t in government.” Sophie, Year 12 pupil
