Dr Sunila Prasad opens the Minerva Lecture Series with a talk on Holistic Health and Menstrual Cycle Awareness
We were delighted to welcome Dr Sunila Prasad to school on Friday as the inaugural speaker in our Minerva Lecture Series, where she delivered an inspiring talk on “Holistic Health and Menstrual Cycle Awareness.”
Reflecting on her professional and personal journey, Dr Prasad shared how she began her career as a Paediatric Doctor before adapting her skills and knowledge to run her own Acupuncture clinic, specialising in Fertility, Menstrual Health, Mental Health, and Children’s Health. Now working in the field of Holistic Health, she explained what this term truly means—emphasising that looking after our wellbeing involves much more than just the physical aspects.
Dr Prasad was thoroughly impressed by the knowledge our pupils already had about the menstrual cycle, and she built upon this foundation to unpack the concept of Menstrual Cycle Awareness. By drawing parallels between the seasons of the year and the phases of the menstrual cycle, she highlighted how a deeper understanding of our menstrual health can help us to recognise what our own “normal” looks like.
Sharing practical tips on how to develop this awareness, Dr Prasad concluding message was one of empowerment: the more pupils understand their health—mental, emotional, and physical—the more confidently they can advocate for themselves without shame. This important topic aligns closely with our Women’s Health Initiative, launched earlier this year, which aims to empower girls with knowledge about their health and their bodies.
We look forward to Dr Prasad returning to Bromley High School to speak to our pupils about acupuncture and its role in supporting holistic health.
