In the last couple of weeks, the Junior School has been buzzing with excitement as we have been celebrating Science Week with many different activities and initiatives.

The celebrations started with some of our Year 5 pupils attending the GDST Junior Science Conference at the Royal Institute. The annual conference provided an exciting introduction to the world of STEM. The day involved pupils taking part in interactive science experiments, from extracting their own DNA in the L’Oréal Young Scientist Centre, to designing and testing vehicles in the Great Crash Test Challenge.

Assemblies have been Science themed and on Wednesday this week, the entire Junior School was transformed into a bustling science laboratory! Pupils worked in their pastoral groups and took part in many amazing experiments in the playground, halls and classrooms. They explored the wonders of rainbows, made pennies sparkle, launched rocket balloons, and even witnessed the fizzy spectacle of Mentos and Coca-Cola!

A highlight of Science Week was the school community coming together to experience an unforgettable night under the stars. The Orpington Astronomical Society joined Year 3 to 6 pupils and their families and shared their expertise and provided their impressive array of telescopes. Pupils and families saw crystal-clear views of the moon, Jupiter, Mars and even distant nebulae. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and awe as everyone discovered the beauty of the solar system through the telescope, and an engaging astronomical talk. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and families to come together, learn and experience the magic of stargazing!

A special assembly this morning and a scientist trail around the Junior School brought Science Week to a close.
