Problem solving and collaboration are just two ‘Skills for the Future’ that we actively promote at Bromley High Junior School. The annual Bebras international contest on informatics and computer fluency gives our Years 4 and 5 pupils an introduction to using computational thinking skills to problem solve.
The computing challenge is organised in over 50 countries and designed to get students all over the world excited about computing.
Year 4 and Year 5 pupils enter the challenge individually or in teams, enabling the girls to collaborate together to apply computational thinking. They recognise patterns, use abstraction skills and algorithmic thinking to solve the problems. This year, 16 girls achieved distinction and Year 5 can look forward to entering the Junior competition category next year.
Year 6 pupils entered the National Junior category for the first time this year and we were delighted that 13 of them achieved distinction, with eight awarded a gold award to progress to the next stage in January (pictured below). They will complete more challenges alongside the gold achievers from Year 7 in the Senior School.
Good luck to all the girls!
