Bromley High School launched International Women’s Week with a day that was both educational and empowering for pupils.

The morning began with a thoughtful introduction from the Head, Mrs Codling, who guided students through the ten pillars of gender equality, setting a principled and reflective tone for the week ahead.

The keynote speaker, Dr Aneka Patel, then captivated the whole school assembly with her talk, “Taking Action.” As both a GP and the founder of an award winning holistic skincare brand, Dr Patel shared how she has drawn on her Indian heritage and the ancient principles of Ayurveda to innovate within the medical field. Dr Patel’s message to pupils was clear: your background and experiences can become some of your greatest strengths.

The learning continued during a lunchtime Minerva Lecture, where Dr Patel delivered a fascinating deep dive into the science of eczema. Pupils developed a deeper understanding of how skin conditions can present differently across skin types, an important and often overlooked aspect of medical diversity.

To round off a brilliant day, pupils were also able to sample Dr Patel’s holistic skincare range, with seven lucky winners taking home prize products.

It was a fantastic start to a week dedicated to celebrating the achievements, voices and leadership of women.
