The school atmosphere was electric earlier this week as pupils gathered for the final rounds of this year’s House Debating Cup, featuring articulate arguments and outstanding public speaking across all houses.
In the grand final, Speldhurst faced off against Oakdene in a closely fought debate centered on the motion “This House would make financial literacy a compulsory core subject in schools.” Speldhurst argued passionately in favour of the motion, while Oakdene mounted a persuasive defense against it. Both teams demonstrated sharp critical thinking, rigorous evidence, and compelling delivery. After a tense deliberation by the judges, Speldhurst emerged victorious, proudly taking home the coveted Debating Cup!
Fernbank delivered a strong performance in the playoff to secure 3rd place overall.
The judges also gave special mentions to Lola (Year 7), Bella (Year 11), Nicole and Imogen (Year 13) for their exceptional contributions and impressive public speaking skills.
