Last week, Bromley High School’s History and Politics society was extremely honoured to host historian Katja Hoyer for their first guest lecture of the term.

Katja spoke about her new book, ‘‘Blood and Iron” which tells the story of the rise and fall of the German Empire, stemming from the impact of German unification in 1871 and the consequent series of events leading to the outbreak of war in 1914. She also touched on modern Germany’s position on the global stage today and the undoubtedly ever present influence of Germany’s complex history.

“As A-level history students, it was so inspiring to interact with a leading female historian, as well as further our knowledge of such an interesting and relevant topic.” Maya, History pupil
