Around 50 girls, including music scholars, GCSE and A-level musicians had the privilege of attending the inaugural GDST ‘Women in Music’ Lecture Series given by world renowned composer Dame Judith Weir.
Dame Weir has written operas, orchestral works and choral music and in July 2014, became Master of the Queen’s Music.
She spoke to girls across the GDST family about the process of composition, her experiences as a woman in this industry and shared with us some of the highlights from her works. It was fascinating to learn about how she approached composition and wonderful to get first hand advice from such an inspirational and celebrated female composer.
The GDST ‘Women in Music’ lecture series aims to share stories of women who have forged careers in music but who have also had their lives shaped by their music.
We are very much looking forward to the future lectures in this series.
