The Spring Term Future Focus Day on Wednesday provided Year 12 and 13 students with a varied and enriching programme designed to prepare them for life beyond school.
Once a term the school holds a Future Focus Day, each one featuring speakers and activities relevant and interesting to young people. In the Lower Sixth there is an emphasis on developing good study skills and making a UCAS application/applying for an apprenticeship. In the Upper Sixth we look at life beyond school and living independently, which forms part of the PSHE programme.
The day began with a talk from defence solicitor Russell Robinson, who delivered an engaging and humorous session on criminal law and personal responsibility. His key message – that ignorance is no defence – encouraged students to think carefully about their actions and the consequences they may carry in the wider world.
“The talk was extremely informative and highlighted some things that will now enable me to make more informed choices if I ever find myself in a tricky situation.”Year 13 pupil

“Enlightened me about factors that affect possibility of accidents that I didn’t appreciate before.”Year 12 pupil
Representatives from the University of Lancaster delivered two tailored sessions. Year 12 students explored how to choose a pathway after sixth form, gaining insight into selecting courses, comparing universities and making confident decisions about their futures. Year 13 students focused on life at university, learning what to expect in their first days and discovering opportunities available to them once they begin their studies.

“Her story was really inspiring… the art piece was really beautiful!”Year 13 pupil
The day concluded with Mrs Bird’s informative session on meningitis, equipping students with essential knowledge about recognising symptoms and staying safe.
Overall, the day offered students valuable knowledge, meaningful inspiration and practical guidance as they prepare for the next stage of their lives.
