Dear Bromley High School Community,

On Monday, our new Student Leadership Team delivered an inspiring assembly celebrating International Women’s Day sharing stories of role models who have inspired them, reminding us of the critical role female leadership plays in shaping the future of both our students and wider society. We have a school filled with young women, each brimming with potential and ready to take on the world. Learning how to lead can unlock this potential, opening up a future of possibilities through building confidence and developing teamworking skills, resilience, and strategic thinking.

According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report 2025, leadership is one of the essential skills sought by employers. Leadership and confidence should be nurtured and developed, and in the Sixth Form, we intentionally teach leadership through training, workshops, teamworking opportunities and leadership positions for all.

Unlike many other schools, we ensure that every girl in our Sixth Form takes on a minimum of two formal leadership roles and a period of volunteering during their time with us. They each support an academic department leading societies and being subject ambassadors. Additionally, they take on responsibilities as prefects for lower school forms or become ‘Big Sister’ mentors. They can opt to join the innovative GDST Lead programme, where participants set up their own social enterprises and receive leadership training and mentoring in partnership with the London School of Economics. This programme not only fosters entrepreneurial skills but also empowers students to create real change for the future. There are a myriad of further leadership opportunities on offer.

Leadership and sports go hand in hand, but sadly only 7% of girls nationally have the opportunity to be sports leaders, according to Youth Sports. At Bromley High School, every sports leader is a girl (of course!), and our Sixth Form students captain sports teams, organise the annual colour run and sports day, and lead sports and dance clubs for younger students. They also coach various teams, fostering inclusivity and mass participation.
Our wonderful alumnae are evidence of the impact of leadership opportunities. Aisling Trowell, Director at Windward Shipping, told us, “Bromley High School played a crucial role in empowering me, instilling the confidence needed to overcome various obstacles encountered throughout my career journey.” Her success story is a testament to the lasting impact of our focus on leadership.

We are proud to offer a nurturing environment where leadership is purposefully cultivated. We are dedicated to developing confident and capable young women who will go out into the world, to lead and influence, and make it a better and more equitable place for all.

Assistant Head Teacher (Director of Sixth Form)
