Year 11 pupils Rowan and Evangeline, proudly represented Bromley High School at the Oxford Schools’ Debating Finals, the largest debating competition in the UK for students aged 14 to 18.

Throughout the day, they engaged with a range of challenging and topical motions, including the role of marginalised authors in literature and the narrative that society has failed young men and boys. Their final debate proved the most demanding, addressing whether European political parties should adopt a cordon sanitaire – a motion they argued successfully.

Across four debates, Rowan and Evangeline achieved outstanding results, placing first and second, with their combined speaker points ranking them ahead of well-established debating schools such as Eton and Harrow.

Their performance is a testament to their critical thinking, confidence, and teamwork. Bromley High School is incredibly proud of their achievement, and we congratulate them both on this fantastic success.

“I had so much fun and am so proud of myself and Evangeline. I feel like both of us learned and improved a lot in only one day.”Rowan, Year 11 pupil
