This week, Senior pupils and parents had the opportunity to attend online safety workshops delivered by Childnet.

Childnet is a UK-based charity who empower children, young people, and those who support them in their online lives, and its mission is to work with others to make the internet a great and safe place for children and young people.

The pupils session covered three main topics: express yourself, online information, and online pressure.  They were followed by a parent workshop in the evening which focused on tackling online hate, how to report concerns and parental controls; areas identified in the school’s online parent survey last term.

We understand that barriers such as childcare and travel can prevent some families from being able to attend in-person sessions. Childnet have recorded a parent and carer information session that includes the same content delivered during the parent workshop hosted in school. The link will be live for at least the next two weeks.

“Before I went to the e-safety talk, I had one way to interpret social media; it was fun and as long as you stayed anonymous nothing could happen.  However this changed after the talk and now I’m aware of things I didn’t understand before. The e-safety talk has really changed how I am online and has influenced me to be more careful.”   Madaleine, Year 8 pupil
