Bromley High School is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Gold Mark by Transport for London’s (TfL) School Travel for Life programme. This is the highest level of recognition, celebrating our commitment to promoting active, sustainable and safe travel among pupils, staff and families.
The Gold Award reflects the hard work of our whole school community in reducing car use and encouraging healthier, more environmentally friendly journeys.
A Commitment to Moving More
Encouraging our pupils to move more is at the heart of Bromley High School’s wellbeing and sustainability initiatives. Active travel helps keep families fit and healthy, while also reducing traffic and pollution around the school site.
Through initiatives such as Move More Days, walking buses, competitions, creative activities, and travel surveys, our pupils and families are supported to make positive choices for their wellbeing and the planet.
Part of a London-Wide Success
Bromley High joins more than 1,000 schools across London that have now achieved Gold accreditation with TfL’s programme. The scheme, delivered in partnership with London boroughs and the London Transport Museum, has been running since 2004 and continues to inspire children and young people to travel actively, responsibly and safely.
London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner, Will Norman, said:
“It is fantastic that over 1,000 London schools have achieved the highest level of accreditation with TfL’s Travel for Life programme. Each additional school that gains ‘Gold’ accreditation helps deliver real benefits to both the environment and people’s health.”
Reaching Gold status is a significant milestone, as schools must demonstrate a measurable reduction in car use or achieve high levels of sustainable travel. This is a powerful way to improve health, reduce congestion, and cut air pollution across London.
Looking Ahead
At Bromley High, our commitment to sustainability is central – both within our school and across the wider GDST (Girls’ Day School Trust). We are proud to be recognised for this work, and we will continue to expand our initiatives to encourage active travel and environmental responsibility.
This commitment extends beyond travel. On 2nd October 2025, we are also proud to host the GDST Global Wisdom Symposium, “We Are One” – an event that will bring together changemakers to explore diversity, global wisdom, and building a sustainable future.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and thank all staff, pupils and parents for making it possible. Together, we are helping shape a healthier, safer and more sustainable future.
