As well as taking part in the London Philharmonic Orchestra Junior Artists Day, Year 8 Music Scholar Francesca also attended the London Mozart Players Concert at Fairfield Halls Croydon.
Featuring star cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the repertoire consisted of music from composers Mikhail Glinka, Dmitri Shostakovich and Modest Mussorgsky.
The concert also featured artist James Mayhew, who created artwork live on stage alongside the music, resembling the mood of the piece played by the orchestra. In addition, a digital score of some of the pieces was displayed on a large screen above the orchestra.
Dmitri Shostakovich was a Soviet-era Russian composer and pianist. He is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century and is particularly known for his 15 symphonies, numerous chamber works, and concerti.
“I thoroughly enjoyed this concert, the energy and passion from the orchestral players was superb! I also liked listening to all the different sections of the orchestra working together to perform the wonderful compositions for the audience. I had a brilliant time!” Year 8 Music Scholar Francesca
