Bromley High School is very excited to welcome acclaimed concert pianist María Linares to our Music Department as our new Musician-in-Residence. Originally from Spain, María performed her first solo piano recital at just 12 years old and has since established a remarkable international career, bringing an extraordinary level of performance and expertise to our school community.
Throughout her career, María has taken the stage at many of Europe’s most prestigious venues and festivals. In the UK, she has performed at the CBSO Centre, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Steinway Hall in London, and the London Festival. Internationally, her appearances include the II Iturbi Prize Festival and Serenates Festival in Spain, the Rossini Theatre in Gioia del Colle, Italy, and Vaduz Town Hall in Liechtenstein. As a soloist, she has collaborated with conductors such as Manuel Hernández Silva, Roberto Forés, and Daniel Gil de Tejada, appearing alongside major ensembles including the Valencian Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire at venues such as the Palau de Les Arts in Valencia.
María’s academic achievements are equally impressive. Having completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with Distinction at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under full scholarships, she recently completed an Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music. There, she studied with Professors Norma Fischer and Danny Driver under a full scholarship while serving as a Constant Kit and Lambert Junior Fellow. Her musical versatility and commitment were highlighted by the commercial release of a CD with the prestigious Naxos label featuring works by composer Anton Urspruch.
In addition to being named Music Ambassador for Spain by the Lang Lang Music Foundation, María was awarded the ‘Myra Hess’ Award by HelpMusicians UK and has earned major prizes in several of Spain’s most distinguished music competitions. Her training has been supported by the Munster Trust, Craxton Memorial Trust, and The Musicians’ Company, alongside participating in prestigious programs like IMS Prussia Cove and the Liechtenstein Intensive Weeks.
