The House Debating Competition officially commenced this week with pupils delivering articulate arguments and sharp critical thinking in a captivating round 1.

House teams tackled two pressing contemporary motions.

Fernbank (FOR) faced Speldhurst (AGAINST) to debate whether “This House Would ban the use of artificial intelligence tools on all school-issued assignments.”

Meanwhile, Oakdene (FOR) took on Elmfield (AGAINST) over the topic “This House Believes parents should have full access to their children’s smartphones and social media until age 16.”

Following impressive displays of eloquence across the board, Speldhurst secured victory over Fernbank, while Oakdene triumphed in their debate against Elmfield. Extra congratulations go to Oakdene and Elmfield for scoring the highest overall points in round 1.

We are looking forward to hearing our Houses debate round 2 next week!
