On Wednesday 23rd September, Year 6 stepped back in time to 1939. Dressed as World War Two evacuees, the girls spent an unforgettable day immersed in history, expertly led by Splatt Theatre.
From the moment they entered the main hall, the girls were thrust into the shoes of wartime children as billeting officers checked them over for placement. Through drama, storytelling, and practical activities, they discovered what life was really like on the Home Front – baking their own rationing-friendly carrot cookies, crafting bookmarks from fabric offcuts, exploring air raid shelters, and learning why so many children had to leave their homes. They also showed off their artistic talents in a brilliant clay-making workshop.
It was a fantastic day that has sparked wonderful enthusiasm for the term’s learning. We can’t wait to welcome our Year 6 parents to our WWII tea party next half-term!
