On 2 May, Year 10 pupils Bella and Ayla enjoyed the outstanding opportunity to debate at Oxford University, having successfully qualified for the finals of the International Competition for Young Debaters (ICYD). They proudly represented the school alongside talented young debaters from across the world at this prestigious event.
The competition comprised four rigorous rounds, with motions covering a broad range of engaging and challenging topics, including “This House opposes the glorification of old art at the expense of new art.”
Bella and Ayla performed superbly, winning one round and placing second in another. Judges commended them for their impressive analytical insight, strong evaluative skills and confident delivery.
Both pupils found the experience immensely rewarding and inspiring, and they are already looking ahead with enthusiasm to next year’s debating season.
