At the end of February, the Bromley Debating Society had a busy day with two competitions running simultaneously. Both are prestigious events in the debating calendar, and they saw our students testing their mettle against top debating schools from across the UK and internationally.

The students who competed in the Cambridge Schools competition were Katy, Elizabeth, Annabelle, Kitty, Edesiri, Sasya, Aarika and Iris. It was Katy and Elizabeth’s very first debating competition as novices, and they did very well to come second in two of their debates.

Our younger debaters also held their own in the International Competition for Young Debaters, which was run by Oxford University this year. The students who competed in ICYD were Maria, Daisy, Christalin, Riva, Navya, Sienna, Bella and Ayla. Bella and Ayla performed fantastically well to clinch second place, beating teams from Benenden and Sevenoaks to secure their place in the finals.

The Bromley High Debating Society now has two teams who will proudly represent the school at their respective finals in Oxford. This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the students’ hard work and dedication. Bring on the finals!
