This week, the Junior School celebrated Mathematics Week with a series of exciting lessons that revealed how numbers shape everyday life and careers.

The week began with a visit from an anesthesiologist, who explained how precise calculations were vital when patients were put to sleep. All pupils were fascinated to learn that mathematics could be the difference between safety and danger.

Year 1 parent Mr Foley followed with a lively session on compound interest. He showed the class how money could grow even while they were asleep, sparking excitement as the pupils imagined their savings multiplying over time!

Next, Mrs MacDonald, the school’s Director of Finance & Operations, demonstrated how budgets were carefully planned. She explained how funds from parents were allocated for food trips and other activities, giving the children a glimpse into the mathematics behind school management.

The week also highlighted the creative side of mathematics. Pupils discovered its role in art and graphic design, learning how proportions and measurements influence leaflet layouts. Bromley High School parents shared the skills needed for their own careers, inspiring all Junior pupils to see mathematics as a gateway to endless possibilities.

By the end, all pupils class agreed – it had been a brilliant celebration of mathematics!
