Last Monday, Senior Art Scholars and members of the Arts Council from Years 4 to 12 travelled to central London to visit the Wallace Collection and take part in drawing workshops within the gallery.

The Junior School pupils were guided through a selection of Powerful Portraits, including a young Queen Victoria and The Laughing Cavalier. They produced beautifully detailed observational sketches in their own handmade sketchbooks while learning about the history of the paintings. Meanwhile, the Senior pupils enjoyed a guided tour of the galleries, closely observing a range of paintings, sculptures, and artifacts, and using different media and techniques to capture them skillfully.

After a quick lunch break, all pupils had the opportunity to explore the armouries and were amazed by the intricate decorative details. A particular highlight was the medieval armour for a horse and knight – one of only three examples in the world!

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to work alongside one another, and we all left feeling very inspired!
