Year 5 pupils joined forces with three local schools for a SHINE workshop combining art and computing.

After a fun warm-up where pupils acted as both machine and operator to copy board images, they explored how drawing machines work. They studied artists like Tim Knowles, who uses nature in his creations. Inspired, pupils were introduced to Spheros – codeable, ball-shaped robots.

Working in teams of three, they learned to program and drive the Spheros to make art. Using large paper sheets and mud, they created nature-inspired drawings in the most sustainable way possible.

The workshop sparked creativity, teamwork, and coding skills, showing how technology and the environment can come together to make something truly unique and meaningful.
