Year 10 students enjoyed a sunny afternoon outdoors, putting their trigonometry skills into practice in a real-world setting.
The girls took on the challenge of measuring the height of various outdoor objects – including trees, floodlights, and buildings – without leaving the ground or using ladders. Armed with clinometers to measure angles and trundle wheels to record ground distances, they applied their mathematical knowledge to calculate the exact height of each chosen object.
This engaging activity not only reinforced key concepts from the classroom but also demonstrated the practical applications of trigonometry in everyday life. It encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking, while making the learning process active and enjoyable. The combination of sunshine, hands-on learning, and collaboration made for a memorable and meaningful lesson that brought mathematics to life beyond the classroom walls.
