This week, Year 10 pupils visited the British Museum for a Classics trip to experience cultures from across the world.
The museum is dedicated to human history, art and culture. Its permanent collection of eight million works is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence.
The group were delighted to see goddess Venus, goddess Demeter as well as the mausoleum of Halicarnassus. They then headed to the Egyptian section of the museum in which featured Sekhmet, the lion goddess, Ra the sun god, and Hathor.
The girls were impressed by the colossal scarab which is one of the largest representations of scarab beetles to survive. The pupils also learnt about shabti which were small mummy shaped figures of the deceased and models of boats, granaries or any items which could be used to help the deceased in the next life.
“Overall I found the Classics trip very interesting and educational. I enjoyed looking at the statues and the mummies as well as getting to hang out with my friends.” Izzy Chan, Year 10 pupil
