Our PSHE pupil working party have put together ‘PSHE ground rules’. It is particularly important to have ground rules in discussions around PSHE topics as some themes can be difficult to discuss. Ground rules help pupils stay on track and have more productive lessons.

“When we wrote the rules, we thought carefully about different year groups – everyone needs to feel safe to share their opinions and to feel heard. We want PSHE discussions to operate in an environment of respect and we decided to articulate that by developing specific rules supporting that behaviour.”PSHE pupil working party

Introducing our PSHE working party pupils

Gulsen, Year 10

“I’m honored to be a PSHE prefect. I chose to be involved in the PSHE working party in order to contribute to our lessons and make PSHE as enjoyable and upskilling as possible. I am most looking forward to applying my negotiation and persuasion skills while debating about topics in class as well as getting another perspective on them.”

Annabelle, Year 10

“I am pleased to be part of the PSHE working group because I think it’s important that younger years have a voice in the education that schools are required to teach, in relation to the world that we are growing up in. The area that I’m most interested in is at what point information becomes relevant to each year group – we are all exposed to different experiences outside of school and getting balanced information on risks is crucial.”

Lily, Year 9

“I am proud to be a PSHE prefect because I think it is great that students have a voice and by being a PSHE prefect, I can help to relay any ideas other students have. Our first job – to create ground rules for PSHE lessons, is a very important job because it helps create a more comfortable environment when talking about topics which aren’t always as easy to talk about.”

Samia, Year 9

“I am looking forward to contributing to the PSHE pupil working party and to working with students from different year groups.  I enjoyed helping in the PSHE room on open day and talking to visiting families about student voice at school.”
